Hey guys. Well this is the main reason I haven’t been posting on here lately. I am in my second year of college (final year) to go onto University in September, and because the course I’m doing is a national diploma in Art and Design, I have to do one final project (FMP). So I have decided to come up with a final piece based along the assignment theme of `evolving forms` to work on the idea of metamorphosis and inspiration - developing a new concept car using the forms of buildings, artists I have looked at etc. The final piece will be displayed as an A1 billboard, advertising the new concept car in different views and perspectives (it will only be concept art though and not a final clay model). The sheets seen here are just a tiny snippet of what I have done so far on this project; it is a very personal and specialist unit where the student can do whatever they like as long as it follows the theme (hence the metamorphism and transformation of a building to a car answers the 'evolving forms' directly. These are still only rough sketches, to act as evidence for developmental work progressing into newer design sheets.
The selection of sheets are basically trying to communicate how the selected building in Dubai, the ‘Burj Al Arab (Dove of Arabia) has inspired me to create a vehicle design and a basic form of a car.

PS: I would like thank the user 'angeladay' for his posting of 'working from inspiration' a while back here on S&D. This was where angel used the example of transforming the forms of a stag beetle and developing it into a vehicle. Thanks so much for the post as this has helped me a lot while working on this project!
Please give me your thoughts.

1- Form Study - Burj Al Arab (quick sketches)

2- Underlays and basic forms turning building into a vehicle (rough sketches)

3- More Underlays

4- A little more Underlays

5- Where I have reached - Overlays 1 (taking some of the best forms from the 3rd and second sheets)

Please comment!! And thanks again angeladay! Razz Cool

I have worked more on this project earlier today. This time focussing on the tallest tower in the world -also located in Dubai: The Burj Khalifa (or Burj Dubai) - lol - the reason i have foccused my attention on the buildings in dubai is becuase i recently when there on a family trip hehe. Cool I think my sketcting is improving a lot by doing this project for college and its awesome coz i get to do sketch cars all day for the 'homework' Very Happy

That's about it for now. Please give me feedback and again, these are only rough and are acting as evidence for 'developemental work' for FMP project in college (I can always create more underlays and sketch out better forms with more overlays in other words).

Thanks and hol' tight Laughing

PS: soz for the large photos i forgot to resize them Embarassed

Just a quick update to my college project thread. This time a quick experimentation with air brush in Photoshop using my wacom tablet. It is very scruffy and rough lol, i have always sucked at digtial rendering, but im slowly understanding the methods and processes.

First started off with a very fast ball point pen sketch (expanded from one of the other designs on the previos sheets)

After playing around in PS for a while I came up with this, its all experimenting at the moment:

Anyway that's it for now. Please comment back, i would like to know people's thoughts!!!

Hi guys. Another quick update on my college project based around Evolving forms theme. This time i have sketched out what i want my final hatch back to look like, evolved and inspired using the forms of the Burj Al Arab aswell as the theme of the Atlantis Hotel and The Palm Islands in Dubai. Presenting my Renault concept: The Atlantis. I know there are a few things wrong with it but it is all for development work Smile Please give me your thoughts!!!

I now have to translate this on to my A1 billboard final piece. Be back with more soon...
