Photoshop Tutorial by Jorg Filipiak

Step 5
Now it’s time to decide about light and shadow by using a white brush and the dodge/burn-tool. I always put every light or shadow on new layers so I can play with the layers Transparency until I like it. I added some Highlights/reflections to the cars body and the glass surfaces.

Step 6
To get more contrast into my drawing I changed the color into a midnight blue by duplicating the layers according to the cars body and color them. On dark colors, light reflections are better visible. To duplicate a layer before you change something on it gives you the big advantage to compare your result with your raw material.
Next I added all the small details that make a design come to life (and demand so much patience…), air-intakes, mirrors, door handles, disk brakes…
Step 7
Finally, to stop the car from hovering in nowhere and added a dark gray ground and a soft shadow on it. To give the design a more race-style 70`s touch I draw a hood scoop and these Viper-like race stripes. Last but not least, don’t forget to sign your work. Pic Jay06

Step 8
To explain how I made all these details might demand an own tutorial and there are so much ways in Photoshop to get equal results, so I just made some “close- up”-pictures. I hope they may show how I used light and darkness.
By writing that short tutorial I noticed that there would be needed a tutorial in size of a book to publish all the necessary information. It also was very hard work to get back all the steps out of my 150-layers Photoshop-document.
